Task

This week, post 5 photos taken in the theme.  This week: Spray and pray! This strategy is perfect for camera n00bs that can locate the shutter, but don't yet know anything else about their camera.

Purpose

Spray and Pray is a technique that actually does have academic merits. Photojournalists and sports photographers are particular fans; if you never know when the explosive moment is going to occur, taking a massive amount of photos lets you catch the right shot. Especially for beginners, you can get caught adjusting settings on the LED screen and never get around to actually taking pictures. The down side: when you take hundreds of photos, it takes up a lot of space, and sorting it takes a lot of time!

Criteria for Success

Successfully upload 5 photos unedited photos that fit the theme. No lightroom yet!
Use jpegs unless otherwise stated in that week’s theme.
You can upload your files in a .zip or .7z. Additionally, if you have a Flickr account, website, or other online portal you’d prefer to use, post your photos there and turn in a URL as your assignment.

Knowledge & Skills

Okay. Week 1. You found the "on" button, and the shutter button. Put your camera on Auto, or perhaps Creative Auto set to Brighter. Start clickin'!
Chimping is another useful technique for beginners. Take a shot, hit Play to view your last photo, and decide by looking at it how to change your settings. Overexposed? Underexposed? Color balance messed up? Adjust accordingly!
But what about all the computer stuff? In Lightroom, using an SD card reader or the USB plugged into your camera, use File > Import. Don't worry 'bout the import dialog or anything yet, just hit go. Select your 5 favorites, right-click, choose Export, select jpeg, and put 'em in a folder. Back in Lightroom, click the big Develop button up top. Mess around with the settings, doesn't matter what you do, and export again. Find that folder, right click and use 7zip to turn it into a .zip. In Canvas on this assignment, click Upload and choose your file.

Are you using a Canon? A Nikon? A Sony? There are hardware-specific tutorials that match your exact camera. On the Software side panel, you can sort by manufacturer. https://www.lynda.com/Cameras-Gear-training-tutorials/71-0.html (Links to an external site.)
